Work begins on two road construction projects

Khost: Work on two road construction projects have started in Khost and Kunar provinces, officials said.

Work on a 24 kilometers long road connecting Lakani border battalion with provincial capital launched. Akbardin Taniwal implementing authority at governor's house urged locals to maintain security of the construction workers.

Public works director Eng. Mamor Shah said work on the road was launched with financial support of Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) and will be completed in nine months.

He explained that they plan to construct more than 100 kilometers road in the province and said the 24 km road will be constructed with the total worth of about nine million afghanis.

Construction of the road will resolve all problems of the area people and was the initial demand of the area people, said Muhammad Qayum Khan, a resident of the area remarking that the area people were ready to maintain security of the workers.

In eastern Kunar work on another 18km road was launched after signing the contact between governor and a private road construction company in provincial capital, Asadabad, an official said.

Addressing to a gathering held for inauguration of the road, Governor Syed Fazlullah Waheedi said the eight centimeters wide road connecting Asmar and Ghaziabad districts will be completed during 16 months.

The road project that will provide job opportunities to over 150 people will be constructed by the total cost of about 4.7 million US dollars provided by Provincial Reconstruction Team PRT, Waheedi explained.
