"Wabag Wins ₹700 Crore Contract to Build Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plants in Zambia".

Va Tech Wabag (Wabag), a leading Indian multinational water technology company, announced on Friday that it has secured a ₹700 crore contract from the Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC). The project, funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Germany's Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), marks a significant expansion of Wabag's footprint in Africa, further cementing its position as a comprehensive water solutions provider on the continent.

Under this Design-Build-Operate (DBO) contract, Wabag will handle the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) of two advanced wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Zambia. The plants will be located in Ngwerere (54 MLD capacity) and Chunga (19 MLD capacity), with a total treatment capacity of 73 MLD. The 36-month EPC phase will be followed by 24 months of operation and maintenance (O&M) to ensure sustainable, long-term performance.

The project emphasizes sustainable energy use, with the majority of the WWTPs' energy needs being met through a combination of solar power and biogas, reflecting Wabag's commitment to environmentally responsible solutions.
