Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the biggest beneficiary of the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), with projects worth ₹40,739 crore sanctioned for strengthening the state’s power distribution network and expanding smart metering infrastructure, the Ministry of Power informed Parliament.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik said the sanctioned investment includes ₹18,956 crore for smart metering projects and ₹21,782 crore for infrastructure aimed at reducing power distribution losses.
The Centre has approved a gross budgetary support of ₹16,570 crore for Uttar Pradesh under the scheme. So far, ₹7,028 crore has been released, of which the state has utilised ₹6,989 crore, according to the ministry.
Launched in July 2021, the RDSS aims to improve the quality, reliability and financial sustainability of power distribution companies through modernisation of infrastructure, reduction of technical and commercial losses, and large-scale deployment of smart meters.
With the highest sanctioned outlay among states under the scheme, Uttar Pradesh is set to receive a major boost to its power distribution infrastructure and digital transformation efforts.
