Telangana seeks nod for Defence corridor.

Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao has asked the Centre to sanction a Defence industrial production corridor in the State.

In a letter to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman, he said Telangana, which has a good ecosystem of Defence research institutes and allied units, is an ideal location to develop such a corridor.

Budget proposals

“Two such corridors were proposed in the Union Budget for 2018-19. While the first one was proposed to be set up between Chennai and Bengaluru, the second one is proposed in Bundelkhand,” he said.

Telangana is home to several public sector defence enterprises, Defence Research and Development Organisation labs, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Mishra Dhatu Nigam, Nuclear Fuel Complex, Electronics Corporation India Ltd and Bharat Electronics,” he said.

Pvt sector presence

The State also has a strong private sector presence in aerospace and Defence sectors. “There are about 1,000 small and medium enterprises working in these two areas,” he said.

“A corridor in Telangana will strengthen our manufacturing base in Defence and allied sectors,” he added.
