Tata Power will begin construction of its ₹6,600-crore, 10-GW photovoltaic wafer and ingot manufacturing facility in Odisha in October this year, while also advancing plans to enter the nuclear power sector by identifying potential project sites in three states, the company's top management said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters after the company's first-quarter earnings announcement, Tata Power Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Praveer Sinha said the company has completed key preparatory work for the Odisha project, including securing land and progressing statutory approvals.
"Our 4.3-GW cell and module plant is operating at full capacity. We are not expanding that. We are setting up a wafer and ingot plant in Odisha, for which we have already got land and various other preliminary activities, including environmental clearances, water and other approvals are being tied up. We expect to start work by October," Sinha said.
The greenfield manufacturing facility will be developed in two phases of 5 GW each, completing Tata Power's backward integration across the solar manufacturing value chain. The company expects the first phase to be commissioned in January 2028, with the second phase scheduled to come online around six months later.
The integrated project represents a total investment of approximately ₹6,600 crore and is aimed at strengthening Tata Power's domestic solar manufacturing capabilities as demand for renewable energy equipment continues to grow.
Alongside its renewable energy manufacturing expansion, Tata Power is also preparing to enter the nuclear power sector. The company has shortlisted potential sites in three states as it explores opportunities in the segment, marking another step in diversifying its clean energy portfolio.
