Suprajit Engg to sst up unit in Singur

Chennai/Bangalore: Bangalore-based Suprajit Engineering Ltd, an automotive cable manufacturer, is setting up a new manufacturing plant at Singur in West Bengal.

The company will manufacture automotive cables at this plant and supply to Tata Motors for its Rs 1 lakh car, which is scheduled for launch in September this year.

Suprajit commenced work on this plant on Sunday. It will see an investment of Rs 3-4 crore. The factory will initially produce and supply five set of cables including brake, clutch and other control cables to Tata Nano car. The order is worth Rs 40 crore spread over five years, a company official said.

The company’s automotive cables have already been certified by Tata Motors supplied by Suprajit from its Pune plant. “Our cable plant at Singur will be up and running before the start of Tata Motors’ new plant at the same venue from where Tata Nano will be produced,” he said.

The company has tied up with Korea’s Michang Cables for a technical collaboration to produce gear shifter systems, cables, shifter cables and gas springs. Apart from Tata’s Rs 1 lakh car project, Suprajit is also bidding for an order from Mahindra & Mahindra for one of their future products.
