OIL to Set Up Compressed Bio-Gas Plants in Delhi Under MoU with MCD.

Oil India Limited (OIL), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to develop Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants based on segregated organic municipal solid waste in Delhi.

The MoU was signed on July 30, 2026, in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, and senior officials from the Delhi government, MCD and OIL.

The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between OIL and MCD for the development of CBG plants aimed at converting biodegradable municipal waste into renewable green fuel.

As part of the initiative, two CBG plants with capacities of 500 tonnes per day (TPD) and 300 TPD are planned to be developed using segregated organic municipal solid waste generated in Delhi. Together, the plants are expected to produce around 30-32 TPD of compressed biogas.

The project is aimed at reducing dependence on landfills, improving urban sanitation, lowering greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the Government of India's energy transition and circular economy goals.

The partnership aligns with OIL's efforts to expand its waste-to-energy portfolio and contribute to national initiatives, including the Swachh Bharat Mission, SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) and the Net Zero objective through sustainable energy infrastructure.
