NMPT invites EoI to develop LNG terminal

Mangalore: New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has invited `expression of interest' (EoI) from the interested parties for the development of an LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal in the port.

The port, which has proposed to develop an outer harbour, feels that LNG terminal can be developed with back-up area for storage there.

A notice inviting EoI for developing LNG terminal said that preliminary feasibility studies have been carried out for the development of outer harbour and there is potential to develop LNG terminal. It is possible to handle large LNG carriers, including crude and POL carriers, in that terminal.

After assessing response from the firms for LNG terminal, detailed request for qualification will be invited, it added.

Sources in the port said that there are enquiries, from both India and abroad, on the development of LNG terminal in the port. The EoI will help get a clear picture of the parties interested in developing an LNG terminal, they said.
