Nalco, Indian Rare Earths ink pact for titanium slag plant in Odisha.

State-owned National Aluminium Co Ltd. has signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian Rare Earths Ltd. (IREL), another public sector organisation under the Department of Atomic Energy, for jointly establishing a 1 lakh tonne titanium slag plant at Chatrapur in Odisha.

Ansuman Das, CMD of Nalco, and R N Patra, CMD of IREL, signed the MoU recently in Mumbai.

The project is planned as a joint venture for which a feasibility study and technology selection would be carried out soon. The project envisages value addition to ilmenite to produce titanium slag, which is an intermediate product for making titanium sponge and titanium pigments.
