Medanta Expands in Uttar Pradesh, Announces 400-Bed Hospital in Varanasi.

Medanta, one of North and East India’s leading private tertiary care providers, announced plans to set up a 400-bed multi-specialty hospital in central Varanasi. The Board of Directors approved entering a Built-to-Suit and lease arrangement with Shripal Hospitality and partners to develop the facility, with Medanta investing approximately Rs. 550 crore in interior services, fit-outs, and medical equipment.

The hospital will be built on a strategically located freehold land parcel in the city, catering to a population of over 4 million in Varanasi and adjoining regions. The facility is expected to offer advanced clinical care through state-of-the-art technology, world-class medical expertise, and a comprehensive multi-specialty service portfolio.

This expansion builds on Medanta’s existing footprint in Uttar Pradesh, which includes a 950-bed flagship hospital in Lucknow and a 550-bed hospital in Noida. Upon completion, the Varanasi hospital will strengthen Medanta’s presence in eastern Uttar Pradesh and bring the company’s total capacity in the state to around 1,900 beds.

Pankaj Sahni highlighted the strategic importance of the expansion, noting that Varanasi remains an underserved market for tertiary care, with most existing hospitals operating at 50–150 beds. He added, “Our 400-bed super-specialty hospital will bring best-in-class clinical expertise, advanced technology, and comprehensive care closer to the population it serves, further strengthening our presence in eastern Uttar Pradesh.”

The new facility is expected to become a key healthcare hub for Eastern Uttar Pradesh, addressing the growing demand for advanced medical care and reinforcing Medanta’s position among the largest private hospital networks in the state.
