Inauguration Soon for Ambala–Delhi Highway Memorial.

The Shaheedi Memorial, a major war memorial dedicated to the heroes of India’s independence movement, has entered its final stages of construction, with senior officials directing high-quality finishes ahead of an anticipated ministerial inauguration.

Located on the Ambala–Delhi national highway, the memorial is envisioned as a landmark cultural hub and “an inspiration for the younger generation,” said K Makarand Pandurang during an on-site review on Tuesday. Pandurang issued strict directives to executing agencies to ensure the project meets international standards.

Key focus areas for the final phase include infrastructure integrity, monsoon readiness, and coordination with the highway. Third-party inspections of electrical and sewerage systems have been ordered, and precise ground levelling and manhole alignment are being ensured to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season. The department will also work with the National Highways Authority of India to maintain cleanliness and landscaping near the main entrance.

The sprawling complex will feature an auditorium, currently undergoing seating and sound system reviews to accommodate large public events, and a commercial zone, including a food court and shopping complex. Artwork installations depicting India’s struggle for independence are also nearing completion.

The memorial’s push for completion comes ahead of a planned visit by Haryana’s chief minister for a final inspection before the formal inauguration. “No compromise on quality will be tolerated,” Pandurang told officials, urging teams to expedite minor pending works. Harpal Singh confirmed that all agencies are coordinating to meet the state’s timelines.
