ICCIC seeks speedy completion of projects.

A delegation led by Vanitha Mohan, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Coimbatore (ICCIC), met Chief Minister K Palanisami at Codissia Trade Fair Complex in the city and impressed upon him the need for speedy completion of various projects, early revision of Master Plan, taking into consideration the present and future needs of the city, and suggested a feasibility survey for Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) for the city, among others.

“Though rated as a Tier-2 city, industrial activity is exorbitant here. The city is growing at a rapid pace. The government should therefore consider to prepare a feasibility survey for MRTS to help ease traffic congestion and ensure free flow of traffic”, noted the members of the trade and industry, in a memorandum to the CM.

The Chamber appealed for formation of Greater Development Coimbatore Authority and revision of the Master Plan (prepared during the early 90s) in tune with the present and taking into consideration the future growth of the city.

Construction of flyovers, subways, multi-level parking facility, truck terminals, ring road, bypass road – all of which are covered under the Smart City project, should be taken up for speedy implementation.

Western Bypass road works have to be taken up on a war footing as the government has already issued the GO, sanctioning this project, the Chamber pointed out in its appeal.

Besides road development projects, the ICCIC President drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the airport expansion plans, which has been hanging fire for over a decade now.

She requested early settlement of funds to the land owners towards compensation for acquisition of land for expansion of the runway at Coimbatore International airport, and allotment of funds for 275 acres, for immediate acquisition.

The trade body also impressed the need for a logistic hub with Agri Export Complex.
