Gujarat Government Approves ₹48,736 Crore for Urban Infrastructure Projects

In a significant move to enhance urban infrastructure, the Gujarat state government has approved a whopping sum of ₹48,736 crore for a total of 2.84 lakh projects. The commitment to provide world-class facilities in cities is reflected in this substantial allocation, reinforcing the state's focus on bolstering public infrastructure and civic amenities.

The government announced on Sunday that the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, dedicated to urban development, has been extended until the fiscal year 2026-27. Moreover, Gujarat cities have also secured ₹18,395 crore from the Union government through various schemes, amplifying the financial support for urban initiatives.

Gujarat, recognized as one of the most urbanized states in the country, has witnessed a steadfast commitment to fortifying public infrastructure and civic amenities over the past two decades. Notable projects such as the GIFT City, Surat Diamond Bourse, Dholera SIR, and Sabarmati Riverfront have played a pivotal role in transforming the landscape of infrastructure and amenities in the state.

The Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, initiated during Prime Minister Modi's tenure as the state chief minister, has been instrumental in completing numerous schemes. These include essential infrastructure projects, stormwater lines, lake beautification initiatives, road developments, water supply projects, street lighting, and more, funded through the grants provided under the scheme.

Expanding its scope, the government has incorporated social infrastructure projects within the scheme, covering urban health centers, hospitals, anganwadis, libraries, sports complexes, and more. The recent extension of the scheme encompasses funding for urban transport, traffic management projects, railway overbridges and underbridges, ring roads, and flyovers, highlighting the government's comprehensive approach to urban development.

The statement from the government affirmed, "Over 2.84 lakh projects worth ₹48,736 crore have been sanctioned under the scheme so far," underscoring the magnitude and scope of the commitment to elevate the urban infrastructure in Gujarat.
