Green clearance for Krishna-Marathwada irrigation project.

The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests has cleared the Krishna-Marathwada irrigation project which is expected to benefit the drought-prone region of Western Marathwada.

The district of Osmanabad will be the main beneficiary, the state government said.

The project will supply water to three lift irrigation schemes. It is expected to cost Rs. 4,845 crores. Demands for the project had been voiced in the recent state assembly session.

An expert committee had several sittings to discuss the project. It finally received green clearance from the Centre on June 24th.
