Bharti Airtel to invest Rs. 3,500 cr in West Bengal over next 3 years.

Telecom major Airtel recently committed to an investment of Rs. 3,500 crore in West Bengal over the next three years.

Investments, according to Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Vice-Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, will come from Airtel.

He said investments in telecom infrastructure will be across 3G, 4G networks and tower installations.

He said that the company has invested nearly Rs. 9,000 crore in the State in the past and has rolled out 13,000 km of optical fibre. It has also launched 4G services in West Bengal.

'We commit to an investment of Rs. 3,500 crore in the State,' Mittal said.

Airtel Money, the payment service arm of the telco, has clocked close to Rs. 100 crore worth of transactions. It was not clear whether the revenue generation was from West Bengal or nationally.

'West Bengal is a huge remittance market because of the migrant labour population,' he said, adding that Airtel was planning to tap this market.
