Air Works sets up MRO facility in Karnataka

New Delhi: Air Works, a provider of aviation services, announced that it has received approval from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to commence operations at its commercial maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Hosur in Karnataka.

In a statement, the company said it has become the country’s first DGCA-approved independent airline MRO. At this facility, it will provide a variety of services, including line and base maintenance, aircraft painting, structural repairs, cabin and avionic upgrade. At the moment, the Hosur facility has one hangar capable of housing two ATR 72 aircraft.

“At the moment, the facility has approval only for the ATR aircraft, but the next step is to expand our capabilities and approvals for the Boeing 737 and Airbus A-320 aircraft. Going forward, we plan to invest $40 million for setting up additional hangars, paint operations and future engine and component activities,” the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Fredrik Groth, told newspersons.

The company, which has already set up a joint venture with Air Livery of the UK plans to launch the country’s first paint shop some time next year, he added. It also plans to expand its presence with additional facilities in five cities, including Hyderabad and Goa.
